Transport in Coimbra is mainly dominated by private cars 70%, with 17% using public transport and 11% using soft modes such as walking and cycling.

Interventions include traffic zone restrictions, access restrictions to historic areas, paid parking, development of cycle lanes, pedestrianisation, dedicated public transport lanes, mobility hubs and various incentive schemes such as free passes for students and concessionary social passes.

The Living Lab efforts focus on implementing on-demand transport services in less accessible areas, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the young and the elderly. The aim is to improve first/last mile access to public transport, supported by infrastructure improvements at transport stops.
