After three years of implementation across multiple European contexts, the SUM project reaches its final stage with a focused discussion on what shared mobility actually delivers in practice—and how this translates into policy.
This session brings together cities, transport authorities, and practitioners to present concrete experiences from Living Labs, covering services such as bike-sharing, Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), car sharing, demand-responsive transport (DRT), and mobility hubs. The emphasis is on measurable impacts, operational challenges, and governance implications.
Rather than showcasing concepts, the event will reflect on deployment realities: what has worked, what has not, and under which conditions shared mobility services can be effectively integrated into urban and regional transport systems.
Key topics addressed
- Results and lessons learned from SUM Living Labs across Europe
- Insights from the SUM Open Data Platform and its role in monitoring and evaluation
- Policy recommendations to support the uptake and scaling of new mobility services
- Integration of shared mobility into planning frameworks, including SUMPs
- Future exploitation pathways and continuity beyond the project lifecycle
- Concrete next steps for cities and regions
The discussion will contribute to shaping evidence-based policy approaches, grounded in real-world implementation rather than assumptions.
More details on the agenda and speakers coming soon. Stay tuned.
Practical information
Participation in the event requires registration to the TRA conference.
What’s TRA?
IN 2026 the Transport Research Arena will take place in Budapest. This event will also be a unique opportunity to showcase European and global know-hows, innovations and developments. Budapest has an optimal location for such a great international event and can be reached easily from most of European Capitals via direct flights or railways. The academic scene and the research network in Europe are highly active, therefore by providing them the chance to be heard and form invaluable connections within the international transport sector, we expect a high number of registrations from young people in the sector. According to preliminary estimates and the outstanding location and features of the capital city, Budapest we expect more than 3000 participants. Many international experts, industrial, public, and other stakeholders will have the chance to debate the challenges in the transport sector worldwide and discuss the latest research results and future developments in mobility and transport.
TRA is co-organised by the European Commission and a number of European transport-related organisations covering all transport modes.
TRA is a combination of a policy/strategy event and a scientific conference, with a competitive “Call for Abstracts”. It provides a forum to strengthen the links between the wider European community and beyond.
TRA is a research and technology conference that brings together scientists, researchers and mobility professionals and acts as a bridge between science and transport and mobility in Europe and worldwide.
