LajkBus to start soon in Krakow Living Lab

The Krakow Living Lab aims to enhance mobility solutions in areas with limited access to public transport. The project involves the launch of a ‘special’ transport service called LajkBus, which will be based on vehicles able to operate on narrow and challenging roads where standard city buses cannot operate. The LajkBus user will order the vehicle as if it were a taxi and pay as if it were a city bus. The vehicle will take the traveler almost anywhere in the area or to the nearest point where they can transfer to a standard bus or tram.

Project partner Municipality of Krakow (Public Transport Authority), in cooperation with Jagiellonian University, carried out analyses of the implementation of the DRT service in Krakow. Of the 12 proposed areas to launch the service, the Skotniki area was selected.

The city has rented and prepared cars to operate the system and hired a company to run it. Project partner ZF provided the SCALAR orchestration platform to plan and operate the on-demand transport service LajkBus. SCALAR branded the Traveler App with the white LajkBus label, based on branding materials provided by the city of Krakow, and helped design the service based on the needs of future users. Additional features were also developed , to make the service accessible to more users and more flexible in customising operations.
